  16. <p>     Entry requirements: A visa and a valid yellow fever
  17. immunization certificate are required.
  18. </p>
  19. <p>     Climate and clothing: Lightweight clothing is suitable for
  20. Dakar's hot, humid summer (June-November). Winter (December-May)
  21. is like early fall in Washington, DC--warm days and cool to
  22. cold evenings.
  23. </p>
  24. <p>     Health: The general level of health in Dakar is good;
  25. however, city water is not potable. Meats should be well cooked
  26. and vegetables carefully prepared. Malaria is endemic in
  27. Senegal, and hepatitis is prevalent. Cholera, tetanus, polio,
  28. and typhoid immunizations are advisable.
  29. </p>
  30. <p>     Transportation: Dakar has excellent and frequent worldwide
  31. airline connections. In the city, metered taxis are available at
  32. reasonable rates.
  33. </p>
  34. <p>     Telecommunications: Excellent long-distance telephone service
  35. (direct dial to Dakar) is via satellite link. Cable and telex
  36. services are available. Dakar is five time zones ahead of
  37. eastern standard time.
  38. </p>
  39. <p>     Tourist attractions: Senegal offers excellent swimming,
  40. boating, fishing (for marlin, swordfish, mackerel, barracuda,
  41. bluefish, bass, red mullet, and sea trout), sailing, skindiving,
  42. and spearfishing. Cosmopolitan Dakar is a major port of entry
  43. into West Africa.
